Manufacturing responsibility

We manufacture every Ransley bag in-house, in our own workshop. From cutting fabric to final assembly, we remain directly involved in making the gear we sell.

Our approach to manufacturing centres on considered production quantities, material choices and responsibility for the work carried out in our workshop.

Materials and sourcing

We consider materials across the life of a product, including their manufacture, performance and how long they can remain in use.

This can mean choosing a technical synthetic fabric where its durability and weather resistance suit the intended use. Our aim is to make informed choices that support a long working life while recognising the environmental trade-offs involved.

We actively avoid PFAS-based treatments, often referred to as "forever chemicals", due to their persistence in the environment and potential impacts on human health.

We are also working towards sourcing as many components as possible from UK manufacturers. This is an ongoing ambition, guided by a desire to reduce transport distances, support local industry and strength transparency throughout our supply chain.

Local Production and quality control

We believe you should know a little about the things you own, especially the ones made to stay with you for years to come.

Every Ransley product has its own unique Goods Record, allowing us to trace when, where and by whom it was made. Each record accompanies the product as it leaves our workshop, giving you a little insight into its origins. It's part of our commitment to transparency, quality and taking pride in what we make.

By keeping production under one roof, we're involved in every stage, from cutting fabric and sewing to final assembly and inspection. We check our work as we go, address issues directly and use what we learn to refine our designs and improve future batches.

Keeping everything in-house also reduces unnecessary movement between production sites. More importantly, we know our products inside and out, putting us in a better position to maintain, repair and improve them for years to come.

Small batches

We produce in small batches by design, making considered quantities rather than working towards large production targets.

We do not run big production cycles simply to build up stock. Keeping quantities manageable allows us to remain closely involved in each batch and make changes as our products develop.

This approach reflects our intention to avoid overproduction.

People and workshop practice

And because we make everything ourselves, there's no question about who made your bag or how they were treated. We pay ourselves a living wage for that work. This is the same standard we would expect for anyone else making our gear.

Manufacturing in-house gives us direct oversight of the work carried out in our workshop. It keeps us closely connected to the time, skill and care involved in producing each pack.
